BERKELEY, Calif. - A 16-year-old boy was arrested after recruiting others to participate in a mass college shooting that could have included a bombing at Berkeley Excessive Faculty, police say. 

The teenager was arrested Monday, when he turned himself in to police, Berkeley Police Department said in a press launch. Monday was Memorial Day and there was no faculty that day. 

The boy was arrested on suspicion of possessing harmful device materials and threatening to commit a criminal offense which is able to result in demise or nice bodily damage.

Police mentioned they acquired a tip on Saturday that the boy was recruiting others in plans of a shooting that included explosives. Following the tip, police obtained and executed a search warrant for a residence. 

Police didn't say if the teen was a scholar at Berkeley Excessive College.

Upon executing the search warrant, police stated they discovered elements to explosives and assault rifles, several knives, and electronic objects that could possibly be used to create additional weapons. 

At that point, a warrant was obtained for the teenager's arrest.

"School security remains a high priority for the division," police mentioned in an announcement. 

Particulars on whom the teen was attempting to recruit were not disclosed. Police mentioned this case remains under investigation. 

Berkeley Unified Supt. Brent Stephens told the college's neighborhood that the district was in shut contact with police throughout this investigation. 

After police confiscated the teen's weapon components, the district relied on police expertise to assess any potential ongoing threat to its faculties. The district communicated with police on the coed's whereabouts. 

"As added precautions throughout this period, we alerted our administrative and safety workers about this investigation and, as is our normal follow, maintained close contact with our BPD College Useful resource Officer on the Berkeley High School campus," Stephens wrote. "Throughout the investigation interval, we have been assured that this individual didn't pose an instantaneous threat to the Berkeley Excessive College community."

The district is conducting their very own investigation on this matter. 

The district may pursue disciplinary action in opposition to the coed. 

In addition, a town corridor meeting titled: 'The right way to Talk to Kids About College Violence' supplied by Alameda County Workplace of Education is scheduled for Wednesday at 6 p.m.
