A fifth grade scholar in Florida was arrested over the weekend and charged with sending a text message threatening to carry out a mass shooting, authorities stated.

In an announcement Saturday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office stated it had realized earlier that day of a "threatening text message" sent by a student at an elementary faculty.

It said its local school menace enforcement crew was instantly notified and started investigating. The 10-year-old boy was interviewed and charged later with "making a written menace to conduct a mass capturing," the sheriff's workplace stated.

In video shared by authorities, the boy could be seen being led right into a police car.

“This student’s habits is sickening, especially after the current tragedy in Uvalde, Texas,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said in a statement, noting that the risk got here simply days after the deadly college shooting at Robb Elementary College left 19 college students and two teachers lifeless.

“Proper now shouldn't be the time to behave like a bit of delinquent. It’s not funny,” he said. “This child made a faux threat, and now he’s experiencing actual penalties.”

Marceno mentioned his staff “didn’t hesitate one second...NOT ONE SECOND,” to analyze the incident.

The comment came as authorities in Uvalde face mounting criticism over their response to the Could 24 college capturing after it came to light that they waited roughly an hour for backup as a substitute of immediately shifting in on the gunman.
