Dad or mum with concealed weapon unintentionally shoots self while at Arlington ISD faculty, police say

Arlington police said Duff Elementary School was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a guardian with a hid weapon had his gun accidentally go off, hitting the dad or mum in the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police stated Duff Elementary College was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a father or mother with a hid weapon had his gun accidentally go off, hitting the guardian in the leg.

The varsity had early launch and college students have been launched at the deliberate time of 12:10 p.m.

In accordance with police, the father or mother, identified as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and unintentionally shot himself. His damage was not critical.

The varsity district mentioned White was inside the building, near the lobby area, and never in the hallway close to college students when the gun went off.

Police and faculty officers said there was no menace made and the dad or mum did not have "malicious intent."

No students or staff had been injured. The guardian was taken to an area hospital after being shot in the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones stated after White was released from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with illegal carrying of a weapon in prohibited locations and discharge of a firearm in sure municipalities.

In the two days since the Uvalde mass faculty shooting, there have been five circumstances in North Texas associated to guns brought to varsities or threats made.

Arlington mother and father mentioned their minds immediately considered the worst when they had been notified.

No parent ever desires there to be a cause for them to get a text message saying their kid's school is on lockdown.

However since this week's lethal taking pictures at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they can't help but suppose the worst when they do.

"When I received the text message, I used to be like, ‘Oh my God, something is going to happen.’ I was shocked," dad or mum Karima Rasheed said.

While most times, lockdowns are only drills college students have to participate in, Rasheed's son, Rami, said that realizing what happened earlier this week made this lockdown different. 

"I began seeing my classmates beginning to cry and our trainer bought a notification on their telephone saying somebody was in the constructing," he mentioned.

Weapons are usually not allowed on college property, and fogeys FOX 4 spoke with stated even when it was a mistake, the timing is simply horrible.

"What are we going to do? They need to go to high school, and clearly, statistically, it is unlikely to occur, however you by no means want to be the one statistic. What if it's your children?" Matthew Mitchell said.

Mitchell lives throughout the road from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to another Arlington school. 

"I’m terrified, completely terrified. I’ve got twin six-year-olds that go to a different Arlington college and each time I hear there's a lockdown or a school capturing, my coronary heart jumps into my throat," he mentioned.

Rasheed stated Thursday was the graduation day for sixth grade college students at Duff Elementary.

While driving her son to highschool in the morning, she had a chat with him about Uvalde and what to do if something ever occurred at his faculty.

"If something happened, you’ve acquired to run wherever that’s safe and conceal," she advised her baby.

While some say the incident in Uvalde is too fresh to talk politics, Mitchell stated something needs to be completed now. 

"They want to discuss it, they wish to marketing campaign on it, they want to fundraiser on it, but they don’t want to actually move any legal guidelines and do anything," he added.
